Nine people out of ten (90%) in Canada have at least one of the risk factors associated with cardiovascular disease (smoking, alcohol consumption, sedentary lifestyle, obesity, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes).

Every seven minutes, someone dies of heart disease or a stroke in Canada. Cardiovascular diseases (heart diseases, blood vessel diseases and stroke) remain one of the most frequent causes of deaths among Canadians. These statistics are based on 2005 data (the most recent data available from Statistics Canada)
